Is AI Overtaking us !!

AI- Artificial Intelligence, is a word which, I believe, in today's world is hardly unknown to anyone. It basically refers to a automated tool which performs various tasks instructed to it using the set of information given to it. We all come across number of AI devices in each minute of our life such as the smartphones, TVs, automobiles etc. Now-a-days, there is a trend going on about the Open AI's  throughout the world. It is considered to be a tool which is capable of doing and answering almost every questions of a general human being.

But, Here starts the actual problem. Is the world is really ready to accept this type of ultra modern tools at the present point of time! Though it is an historic invention in the field of digitalization read with modernization, will it ONLY serve the purpose for which it is made! Can't it be used for some other purposes which can generate the risk factor ! The answer is an absolute yes. It is a risky tool and can be used for various methods of crime. In today's tech world, many AI tools are called as black boxes, meaning that the founder itself are unable to explain what is the capacity of it, to what extent it can do.There are various examples of how an AI-driven system has produced wrong results, which has ultimately destroyed the purpose of invention of it. Times of India(ToI) of dt.05/05/23 reports that the UN has called the Tesla CEO Elon Musk, along with Apple Co-founder Steve Woznaik asking AI labs to stop the training of AI models more powerful than GPT4 for six months, citing potential risks to society and humanity.

Taking the legal prospective of it, there are few countries which are right no concerned about the harmful effects of AI and researching for the solutions. Still, they don't have a proper rule or regulation for it. U.S, for example, don't have any comprehensive set of rules and has taken a fairly hands-off approach. The Biden administration released a blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights (AIBoR), developed by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). China, however, over the last few years has came over with some sets of rule to regulate the algorithmic functions of such AI tools. The Hindu newspaper(dt.04/05/23) reports that the EU is coming up with some short of AI regulating acts, read with its General Date Protection Regulation(GDPR), which prohibits using technologies in the unacceptable risk category with little exception. India, in this field, at a nascent stage, talking about the data protection bill, taking an inspiration from the EU.

Hence, to conclude, I believe that though this type of tools are ultimately aimed towards the development of humanity and such type of regulations may demotivate and stifle the innovation, their use is a matter of concern these days. Modernization is good, but it should not go beyond the speed of civilization. Hence, now, more efforts should be put towards magnifying the use of the invented ones, along with reduction of their harmful effects, rather than innovating further ultra-modern AI tools.
